How to Get a Girlfriend

,
How to Get a Girlfriend
Insane Muscle Girls :

How long has it been since you've had a girlfriend? Whatever the case is, it's much too long. Today, after reading this guide, this will change.

How to Get a Girlfriend

First of all, I will tell you what this guide is not. This guide is not about how to get laid, Casanova; we are talking about a girlfriend that sticks around longer than just one night. This guide is also not meant to teach you how to salvage your already messed up relationship, although some of the lessons taught here may help you out there, bud.

The most important thing is forget about your stupid, absolutely wrong idea that your girlfriend should find out who you are on your first date. It is absolutely moronic to think like that, so NO you are NOT going to show her who you are. You will show her who she wants to see. Ok? If you disagree then stop reading here and forget about ever having a girlfriend. You will spend the rest of your life raiding dungeons with your guildies.

Let's start with you.
Learn about the world you live in and forget about the world your level 70 mage lives in: Your girlfriend will be scared off if you tell her that you stayed up until 5am running that 25 man raid. In fact don't mention anything about your favorite video game. Learn about the political issues, what's going on in the world, even the weather, and get some personal opinions about these, pick a candidate and know why you picked him, or whatever the political issue is. It is better for you to believe something different than she believes than not to have an opinion or even worse not knowing anything about that issue. Some common issues popular during the writing of this guide are abortion, gay marriage, presidential nominee, housing market, economy, North American Union(NAFTA) and several world issues such as hunger, oil, and others. Get opinions about all of these and decide not just whether you are anti-abortion but also why you believe that this is the right way, find out the oppositions arguments and learn to defend against those too. She needs to know that you have a head on your shoulders.

Learn to be funny: Start with the jokes on ComedyCentral.com and watch the Comedy Central channel. There are a bazillion websites, movies, etc. for you to pick up new material from. Now this is a difficult part because what you may think is funny, may not be funny to someone else, i.e. your new perspective girlfriend. So tell your friends, family, even random people on the street/mall if you're brave enough and see if they laugh or sit there with a blank stare. If most people laugh then you should be okay. Also avoid racy jokes, i.e. blond, black, gross, overly sexual, etc. If you can get away with telling it to your mother or grandmother or some other prude in your family then you should be all right.

Get cleaned up: Now I'm not saying go shave if your beard is a part of you. If your buddies don't make fun of you because you look like a dill weed with your semi-beard that looks like you are a 13 year old trying to pass for 18 then keep it. What I mean by clean up is wash your clothes and NO your luck will not go away if you wash your gross baseball cap; ditto with your tidy whiteys and socks. Wash it all with detergent and if it's supposed to be white then add some bleach to it. Get some cologne, and if you are trying to tell me that you already have some then I will soccer punch you. Don't wear the cologne because you like how it smells, or how it looks, or you think it has a cool name, or the one that your mother/aunt/grandma/dad/etc gave to you. Get the one that she thinks smells good. A great place to start is Macy's (some of you still call it Bon Marche, or The Bon) they have a huge selection and ask one of the girls, I repeat girls, there to help you pick one out. A couple that you can't go wrong with is Fierce by Abercrombie and Fitch or Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani. Another tip here is do maybe 2 sprays on your shirt and a half a spray on the front tip of your neck; NEVER spray it under your armpits, sweat and cologne mixed DO NOT smell good. Finally, never substitute cologne for a shower; cologne wears off your stench doesn't.

Next is your environment.

Dude if you are 18 or older and you're still living with mom and dad then you are a loser. I don't care about your situation, that you're going to college and that saves you money, whatever...you are a duesh bag. Get a roommate and rent an apartment. Or if you can afford it buy a home and get roommates. Roommates can be a good thing, when you take your girl to your place and you have somewhat normal roommates she will probably feel more comfortable there than if you live alone; this is true until you're 30 years old or older, by then it is better if you live solo. Keep your pad clean, get on your roommates to clean up the crap that their dog left a week ago in your yard. Keep your yard mowed and green. Clean up the dishes and dirty clothes that are lying around. Have a big screen TV, or at least a TV bigger than 13 inches and a Playstation/Xbox/Nintendo. Remember you are a normal guy so get rid of that Atari, except for you and your nerdy friends, no one thinks that an Atari is cool. Your couches should be decent too, leather is nice but anything that doesn't make you feel dirty by sitting there will work. Put up posters around the living room of your favorite stuff and please make sure it's not a poster of the newest version of Redhat Linux; gangster characters, hot chicks, and favorite movies work well.

Your room needs to be clean too, decorate as you like just don't go too nuts about posting your next W.O.W. character's talent builds or the armor/weapon you want to get. Tone it down with the nerdy stuff. Also make sure your bed is at least a twin size, although a king/queen is better. A single will just not do, your idiotic argument that it will help you cuddle is just that, idiotic. Your comforter cover should be something decent too, the one your mom gave you that has the pink flowers on it is a bad deal, burn it. If you're into weird crap like hacking computers, slicing your wrists, etc. get rid of any signs of that...by the way if you're really into slicing your wrists a girlfriend right now is a bad idea, check yourself into a mental hospital first. Finally make sure your place doesn't smell like dog poo. It's probably not good if it smells like flowers either, but it's better that than dog poo. Fabreeze is your friend here; fabreeze the crap out of all your furniture, clothes, roommates, etc.

Your friends/roommates, unfortunately, are something your girlfriend is going to use to learn more about who you are. So tell your friends to stop acting like turds and stop telling her stupid, boring, or scary crap about you. If she finds out that you are being hunted down by the FBI for hacking into their database then you can forget about any chance you might have with her, she'll bail for the door faster than you can blink. Also make sure your friends notice her, are nice to her, but that's it; if your friends are likely to stare at her tits all night long then you're in trouble. It also helps you out if those friends have their own girlfriends.

Your car needs to be clean inside and out. No fowl smells, new car scent usually works well, even if you're rolling around in a 1960 Gremlin. Bumper stickers are OK and are usually preferred unless you drive a nice car such as a Beamer. It doesn't cost that much to fix the spider web crack in your windshield, so go do it. Also you must have a car of some kind, if you're some kind of a nature freak that only rides a bike then ok, but still have a car that runs so you can take her to dinner instead of having her pick you up.

Now we will cover where to look for her.

Ok, right off the bat, forget about picking up your girlfriend from the bar, strip club, whore house, etc. You will NOT pick up girlfriend material here...no, shut up, I don't care about your or your friend's last girlfriend and where you/he found her. A bar only has whore material or girls that are there to get a free drink from you.

Have your roommate's girlfriend/sister/your friends introduce you to a girl. Let these people know that you are on the prowl. This is probably the easiest way to get a girlfriend as you have someone vouching for you, "....I know this guy, he's pretty cool, you should meet him..." type of thing gives you an advantage because she trusts the person vouching for you so that automatically translates to her having a small trust in you.

Join a church, more specifically a church youth group, small group etc. HOWEVER join it because you are sincerely interested in the church/group. This one will take time before you find the right group/girl, and even more time before you can start making a move on your new found perspective girlfriend. If you make a move too early here, she will think that you joined the group for the wrong reasons. If you join a group that you hate she will notice that you are not involved in any discussions and will see you for the weasel that you are.

As weird and boring as it can be, one of the best places to meet girlfriend material is at operas or Shakespearian type plays. Just make sure that you arrive early so you can "mingle" before the play. This works really well if you can get another guy AND girl to go with you.

Sports activities such as football, baseball, basketball, soccer and other games are another good place although less likely that you will have time to build any kind of relationship here as a decent girl may need two or three exposures to you before phone numbers can be exchanged; although if she comes to most of a particular team's games and usually sits in the same area than you have a chance.

Go to all BBQ's, parties and weddings. These are great places to meet decent chicks. Even if this is a family function, it is common for your family members to bring a friend to such an event and as long as you and this cousin or whatever are on good terms you have an easy in with this friend.

More recently meeting people online is the new thing to do. I would recommend this as a last resort because as there are stories of happy endings with these things, it is more common that you will be 1) be forced to deal with insane amounts of spam and 2) that your "perfect match" turns out to be some kind of a psycho/stalker/etc.

Now we will cover making contact with your potential girl.

The first rule of thumb when trying to grab a girl is that you can NOT come across as easy. Where ever this place is, it is crucial that she thinks that she has to put some effort into "getting you"; that you are a wild Bronx and she has to break you in order for her to make you into a proper man. If you don't she has zero interest in you/ bored. That means that you have to be constantly talking to other girls, yes show her attention, but only a little bit more than the other girls at this place. Make the other girls laugh, but also make her laugh. Finish her off about how dang cute her hair looks. That's it. One compliment, hair is usually a good one. If hair is an obvious "no go" (dreadlocks, bald, etc) then compliment her perfume; but again keep to one compliment. Smile to her across the room, but don't stare. If she glances in your direction, look at her, smile and go back to your conversation. If things are successful then phone numbers are exchanged the first time you see her. Be bold about asking her for her phone number if you received any signs that she's interested in you (if she glances at you from across the room and smiles...that's a GREAT sign). If she didn't respond the first time you see her, don't give up yet. Next time you see her, follow the same procedure, have new jokes, be funny/interesting/etc. It is quite common that your cousin or whoever calls you and tells you that this girl wants you to have her number or she might call you personally.

Finally we will cover your first date.

Once phone numbers have been exchanged, the next day YOU call her ONE time. Let me repeat that for you. YOU CALL HER ONLY ONE TIME. Her machine did record the message, you did not forget to say anything, and she does have caller ID. If she doesn't call you back that day wait 2 more days before calling back ONE MORE TIME. If no response again then DO NOT CALL HER AGAIN!!! Wait to meet her in person again. Message should be sweet and to the point "...hey I was thinking dinner and a movie Friday or Saturday, would love for you to be my date, let me know if you can fit me into your schedule, my number is xxx-xxxx..." that's all you need to say.

You pay for EVERYTHING and tip well. Don't open the door to your car for her unless you don't have automatic locks. You DO open the door for her to every building such as theater, restaurant, and if you're lucky your pad. Make sure that you have reservations for the restaurant, even if you're taking her to some cheap place like Olive Garden, an hour wait is a HUGE mood kill. If she drinks you should drink too, if you're not sure ask her. Just don't get drunk; one glass of wine, one beer, OR one mixed drink. Remember you're driving, she should feel safe with you. If you are an alcoholic and you manage to get drunk on your first date, first of all you are a total moron and you can forget about a second date, but second you might be able to salvage it if you at least pay for a taxi home.

That's it. From now on you're on your own. If you didn't get laid your first night then that's even better, remember you're here for the long haul and there will be plenty of opportunities to experience her later. I'll leave you with one last tip. Confidence is the single most determining factor in your success with relationships. If you don't have a lot of it there are a few things you can do. Right away hit the gym, and go EVERY DAY. Forget about this 3 times a week crap. Monday through Friday you're in the gym for at least one hour. Pick one muscle group for each day. Next thing, enroll in a debate class at your high school or college. The more of a conversationalist you are, the better at arguing or being a smart ass you are, the more confident you will be. Play a sport/join a team; and no bowling and chess are not considered sports. Finally keep trying until you succeed, just because the first girl turned out to be a disaster keep trying...even if this is your tenth time, still keep trying. The more you do it the better you become at it. Good luck in your endeavors...and next time I see you, I hope that there will be some cutie hanging on to your arm.

Yoga For Tired Eyes And Strained Vision

Yoga For Tired Eyes And Strained Vision
Insane Muscle Girls :

So you're forty something now, and you notice that the writing on everything keeps getting more and more microscopic... or could that be your tired eyes finally aging? Oh the horror, as you give in and attempt to find a fashionable set of +1.25 readers at the drugstore.

Yoga For Tired Eyes And Strained Vision

Now, you have them and you think it's great at first... until your eyes come to heavily rely on them, and you have to remember where you put them every time you take them off, and by the time you do find them, you don't even get a chance to read what you were attempting to that whole hour ago. High maintenance. Well, not exactly zen. And girls, the last straw is when you buy a decorative chain for keeping your glasses around your neck. Tragic.

After about a month or two with the drugstore magnifying readers, for me, the thrill was gone, and I began to notice even more strain, probably because of hazy, cheap plastic lenses, and astigmatism that I thought might need a customized prescription. The fact that I might also be entering "bifocal territory" dropped another unpleasant bomb on me.

Since I've been studying so many interesting things (worth many more articles for another day,) it occurred to me that not only did I not want to spend money on this situation, I didn't want to accept any kind of eye deterioration at all. Surely it wasn't the only option in all the world. My mother calls it stubborn, but I decided that since my condition wasn't exactly severe, mind over matter and some eye exercises would fix me right up. I'm sure my attitude helped, but so did these yoga exercises for eyes.

All of these exercises can be done once or twice a day, as long as you don't feel any muscular strain. If you do feel strain, ease up a little and adjust your "workout" accordingly.

First, sit comfortably, and breathe deeply, only through the nose if possible. Focus for a minute on relaxing shoulders, neck, jaw and all facial muscles. Move your chin to your shoulder, left and right, especially if you've been sitting still for a long time. Close your eyes gently, feel gratitude and appreciation for your eyesight. Open your eyes normally - not wide - and slowly look left and right 5 times, then close your eyes and breathe. Open your eyes again and look up and down 5 times, followed by gently closing your eyes again and a few deep breaths. Do the same exercises looking diagonally up/left to down/right 5 times, and then the opposite direction diagonally. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Open your eyes again, look up, and begin a slow clockwise circle. Do this 5 times, close your eyes and breathe. Do the same in a counterclockwise direction, then close your eyes and breathe.

When you open your eyes slowly again, raise one arm out in front of you with your thumb up. A large room or a window nearby will help, because you need to focus on something distant, then your thumb, then your nose. Repeat 5 times; distance, thumb, nose, and again follow with closed eyes and deep breathing. Take note of the different eye muscles that are getting used.

Next, rub your palms together until they become warm from the friction. Even include your fingers and the backs of your hands in this rubbing. This is to release the life force of your hand chakras so you can channel the energy into eye relaxation. When your hands are warm, place the palms gently over your eyes - do not press hard on the brow or cheek bones - just lay your palms over your closed eyes and enjoy the darkness for as long as it is comfortable. or possible. Continue the deep breathing through the nose only, and visualize a few specific parts of your body (starting from the top down) expanding when you inhale, and shrinking when you exhale. With your eyes still closed, imagine a boat on water moving slowly closer, then further away from you in a figure 8, left and right. You are increasing optic nerve awareness by having this darkness without sleep. Understand that any time you rub your hands like this and place them over your eyes, you are bringing energy to your eyes, and you can repeat this several times a day without the other exercises. Just remember that being as relaxed as possible while doing it is very important.

Now, people might look at you funny if you're doing this in the office, but they also might be looking at you through lenses thicker than soda bottles, even with some embedded, progressive trifocal action going on, so don't worry about it, and just let them have a free show.

There are also some habits you can include to support your vision. Snack on carrots, celery, berries. Dark chocolate and red wine (in moderation!) offer flavonoids to protect the eyes. Avocados are rich in lutein to support eye health, and Bilberry extract is known to help improve eyesight naturally. Sufficient amounts of rest (at least 7 or 8 hours a night) are also paramount for healthy eyes, and even though we tend to think we don't have enough time for resting, we would all be wise to make time for it. A 20 or 30 minute break with slow abdominal breathing right in the middle of the day can do wonders. It provides far more benefits than just supporting eye health, and the same goes for smoking. You know it would benefit all of your health to quit, but many smokers don't realize how much they are hurting their eyesight, and even how well they see color, with smoking. The eyeball is full of tiny capillaries that constrict with the use of nicotine, and those capillaries are how the eyes receive the blood and oxygen they need to work normally.

Be nice to your eyes; sight is precious. Consider how important it is to step away from the computer and look into the distance for at least one minute every 20 minutes. The rest of your body greatly appreciates the circulation as well. We are not made to be static creatures, and the use of computers has made a tremendous impact on reducing how much we move. Record increases in chronic back pain alone speak volumes on that, including circulation issues. Always consider that what you do with your eyes repeatedly will have consequences. If you're staring at a computer screen all day, for example, you're looking at everything about 20 inches away for a large percentage of your time awake. Artists experience this too, but they usually have more opportunity to look at other things than an office employee firmly planted in a cubicle with little more than a computer to look at. The shape (and function) of the eyeball is affected by ocular muscles; some of them are overworked and fatigued while others are neglected. You may find, as I did, that a relaxed, balanced eye will not have to strain for clear vision.

Try not to rely on glasses unless you absolutely have to. (Yes, some of that writing IS insanely small!) An ophthalmologist would probably argue with me, but aside from specific diseases or injuries, physics tells me that it only makes sense that glasses are like using a crutch to support a weakened leg. The crutch is not going to help the leg get stronger or better; it will only allow a person to move around (compensate) with a bum leg. Meanwhile, the muscles of the leg atrophy over time with the use of the crutch. Pretty soon, some other part of the body will need help as a result of the whole body compensation. If you've worn prescription glasses for years, and you need a stronger prescription every few years, think about why that is... The lenses of the glasses have been doing the work for the muscles of the eyes, and as a result, they will never become stronger again, and the opposite muscles will never relax again, unless a different approach is taken. I believe that totally eliminating a need for glasses is possible, but you'll need to look into more involved exercises than the ones listed here.

Dr. William H. Bates pioneered a connection between the eyes and the mind, and of course I agree with the approach because the best treatment does not always isolate a problem to one area, and furthermore, there's a lot more about the shape and mechanics of the eye to learn than demonstrated here. If you're interested, Dr. Bates' "Snellen Chart" exercises are, in my opinion, the absolute best place to start. Do a search for Dr. Meir Schneider as well, who was legally blind as a child, and had to learn everything by reading braille. He can see and drive now, and he does so without glasses. He is a fine example of what Dr. Bates studied, and he is very generous with his education.

If you're forty something, and just introducing your eyes to readers, I encourage you to decline the "aging" excuse for degenerating eyesight. You're in the beginning stages of experiencing perhaps years of repeated fatigue and/or neglect, and this is the best time to learn eye relaxation and exercises. So... join me in getting away from this article now, and flex your eyes on so many other things.

The Strange Letters of Amelia - From Nantucket, 1852 - Part I of II

Advance (narrator): The next to true story, "The Story of Amelia," is told by herself, in a number of letters to her daughter, whom has discovered them after rummaging through the attic of her mother's house, found in and among other sailor items in a wooden chest, Judith Cleland, of New England, Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

Amelia, the highlight of her life, and this story, takes place in Nantucket, 1850 - 1852, for the most part, although she spends a decade in Nantucket until she returns to Stockbridge. Judith, is holding the letters, with a few different dates on them, in her hands, about fifteen pages: it is 1872, it is twenty-years since those letters have been exposed to the open air; she is at her mother's home in Stockbridge at the moment.

She has always been curious why her mother never married, and never talked about her father other than saying he was a sailor, and a hero of sorts to him, and thus, likewise to Judith; Judith is now 21-years old and the letters have to be opened up, so she feels, no matter what, even if it is like opening Pandora's Box.

It is a story about a man she met, by the name of Gideon Asa Scott (an Irish-Scottish bulk of a fellow, in his middle to late forties).

To repeat myself, Judith finds fifteen pages of letters, her mother wrote and kept for her, not to be read, nor the envelope opened until after her death, she has now brought it to her mother, whom is outside, in the backyard, drinking tea. She lays it down on the table next to her (she is fifty-one years old, Amelia knows right away what it is, looks at her daughter's eyes) she smiles and says:

"I think you're old enough to understand why I never married, and to learn who your father really was?"

These were two questions always on Judith's mind, matter-of-fact; she had asked her mother ever since she was a teenager, those two questions.

On another note, Amelia, had moved with her family to Nantucket for a number of years, it was because of the railroad was being built in that area, and her family thought it best to avoid the raucous and tribulations of the times, and the wealthy had moved in, as did poets and writers.

She had liked writing and had met Catharine Maria Sedgwick, who had wrote such books as 'Hope Leslie,' 1827 and 'Married or Single,' 1857. She was kind of her idol. Like Catharine, she also was sent to a finishing school in Boston, she was the most talked about female author of her day-this inspired Amelia, and of course, she liked the book Catharine wrote called: 'Married or Single,' what it expressed, that being: women should not marry if it involved losing their self-respect, self-worth, identity.

Now I have really said enough to this story, we must now go onto those lengthily letters of hers to find out those two secrets, Judith has waited so long for.

(Amelia is going to read it to her daughter as they sit under an umbrella, sipping tea, but first she makes a statement):

The Letters

Amelia's Statement to her daughter before reading the letters: "I have read a lot of Cotton Mather in past years; he was very popular when I was a child with my family growing up. Need I say Judith, he was very influential with me, he wrote much, was married three times, had fifteen-children, so I suppose he knew what he was talking about, and put into writing, and many books, and a doctorate degree helped, honorary, but nonetheless, official. He said, "You should be more solicitous that their souls (meaning one's children) may not be Starved, or go without the bread of life." I presume some of that bread is understanding the truth, and by telling you the background of those letters, or reading them, shows caring of that nature, especially when you know someone close to you knows and doesn't tell you-as in the letters you hold in your hand. I felt it would be a bit early to tell you the whole story, how you became you, and perhaps how I became me, or a little more of me, after your father's death, I was waiting for you to become at least thirty-years old for that news, that is when Christ Himself took up his ministry. Cotton Mather also said in so many words and I hear you cry for understanding: if your dog and child were drowning, whom would you save? A poor example by and large, but it gets to the point. When one's family member feels under an ill discipline, it is not unusual that it affects other members, so I shall read the letters to you:

Letter One: 1852

The Story

"When I first saw him, more like found him stranded on the beach like a soaked wet rag, or dead seal, and helped him, I said to myself: 'He looks to me to be an honest and courageous kind of fellow, a sailor, one that would not try to do me harm,' and once getting to know him, I was correct-for the most part-in my evaluation at first, as well as, he wasn't too religious which I gathered from the start, unfortunately, but in his quiet way he was a sort of reverential unspoken noble natured person, perhaps a cry for a better worth of immortality, was in his soul...

"He did at the end of our relationship, pretty much make up his mind of what he had to do, and did it, although if you ask me, he had no rest in that anticipation, and beyond human kindness he left me little to hold onto, and hope for in the sense of his return-and for him, he left no definite belief. It is strange how he persists though, on wondering to and fro, around the world on a pile of wood: strange but fascinating at the same time.

"I am thirty-one years old, he is forty-six. There will be no correspondence I fear, between him and I, over our relationship that has lasted only two-years that brought me an abundance of warmth and fellowship. But faded the last season he was with me, which was most recently.

"I liked his name it was different, not his last name but his two other names, first and middle, not real different for an Irish-Scotsman I suppose, Gideon Asa Scott, but different for me.

"When I first found him on the shores of Nantucket, I dragged him a ways, and waited until he was semi conscious, and allowed him to lean on my shoulders, and I brought him to my home, put him naked by the hearth, I found soon after, his resurrection would be complete within a few days. And it didn't take long for ourselves to get on a pretty much, formal terms.

(You must realize, I am pregnant now, and Gideon never knew this, and I did not know if you were a boy or girl inside of me, perhaps if you are a girl I will call you Judith, I like that name, it seems to have a Romanist ring to it, and thus, you will understand, I'm sure of that; on the other hand, if you are a boy, I dread to tell you, we live in a time, our skirts are made of iron, and the male gender, with all their whoring around, wants to marry a virgin, and I dare say, expects their mother to be one if the father was not properly wed.)

"As I was about to say, before that little interlude, it was perhaps just two weeks, and we became better friends, sociability and our confidence with one another showered in our place!

"Before he left he was or had not been well, of late. And to my guess, suffered from too constant a mental occupation, in pursuit without much success, of whatever he was thinking. Plus, he was drinking, as always, but I did curve that bad habit for him, somewhat.

"For a long while he was happy, and then some kind of morbid depression came over him. Perhaps wanting to go back to the sea, or at least that was, or better yet, is, my conjecture, or better yet, to his wife, Phoebe...whom he said was from New England, not sure exactly where, I surmised from our late night conversations, New Hampshire, he was quite secretive about such matters. My reasoning being, there is an old ruin, ancient archeologically site nearby, deep in the woods and he had mentioned it in relation to Phoebe ("Mystery Hill").

"When he left he was seemingly not profoundly sympathetic or responsive as he was at first to our relationship that warmth had left.

"As you will know in time, I was born and raised in Stockbridge, moved to Nantucket for a number of years, the railroad had come in and my parents thought it best I live in Nantucket for a decade, and so I did, they feared the raucous, and hard drinking men, and men of no repute might take liberties they were not entitled to.

"When I think of him, it is still with exceedingly warmth and enthusiasm.

"For two-years I had looked into his deep dark eyes, and all I can now see is the story I now live, his story and mine, the one I am telling you, every line to me is a single and sincere longing on my part for him, and for you to know him better."

Letter Two dated: 1857

Questions

"Here is a question I presume you will be asking: 'who was he anyhow?' You are five-years old now Judith and this is my second letter to you thus far.

"For years I have gone over the story me and your father lived, Gideon, He always had a strain on his face, for whaling...a subject rather rhapsody for him.

"But how was he, you will ask, and I will possibly say in passing: he was the ocean, and he left behind the earth, to find the mighty whales, sell their oil, make profit, help the so called original commodity, become what it might become. It might be said of him, as in a fable, he was made out of sterling metal, to me a face imprinted on a coin. And when Dorothea met him, my dear and best friend, she had become very puffed up with smiles, not to count his wealth, for he had none, she bethought herself, she wanted his recognition, with this purpose in view, I pulled him quickly away, like an architect would his plans for a great building, when someone else is peering over your shoulder, that should not be.

"Many a night we passed the evening together, listening to the fresh sounds of the Atlantic with his sailor talk. All jargon to me at first of course, and then I got to know his ways, terminology, and so forth. Actually I started to live his stories, as he relieved them; and it always made for a good stirring evening. He would plough deep into the depths of the ocean bring to surface his rich tales, atheistically. To him it was all a sacred matter, with its exquisite ironies. At times he was on the boarder line of blasphemy.

"As I have not said, but I must, it had already been rumoured in the town of our living together, they all looked at me to no purpose, as if their life was perfect, and undeniable on the right track to heaven's gates. People are always the more ready to believe the worse of your neighbour, but they'd like to pluck the rose themselves. But as I was saying, or about to say, when I first met him, he was weather-beaten, like crushed marble, his skin like snow, from the long ordeal in the sea. Studded with muscle knobs all over his legs; but on the other hand, when he opened his eyes he saw me, with a gleam, especially beneath his eyelids.

"I do hope you understand, I see you playing at this moment outside on the grass next to my window, as I write, I wish you would have got to know him, perhaps this will help.

"Well, he said he was married, that he had wedded a woman as I mentioned before, named Phoebe, what I neglected to mention though, was she served time in Sing Sing, a prison for women. I doubt he really ever told me the full and true story, it wasn't his nature to do so, he'd add fiction with non-fiction, to make everything a tinge mysterious. In any case, there were many of those so called prison girls, willing to sleep with the Judges and noble men of the city, sound standing citizens, they'd hide he'd say behind curtains in the prison, and have their orgies.

"Whatever case, he married one he said, and had five-children with her. I kind of frowned on this at first, and then overlooked it, as if there was some truth to it, but most likely, everything had its distortions, and deletions interwoven into it, and generalizations.

"No man had ever put such reality before me, unflinchingly as he did. Conceivably to see my reaction, so I often thought: to see if I got startled.

"He had said one afternoon when we were talking on the porch, drinking lemonade: he said in so many words: his boat had sunk and the ship he was on left him for dead, he was compelled to swim, even unconsciously for hours on end. This I know to be true, for I found him astray, on the coast. And I shall get more into that part of the story, later on, but I must say his sea stories were so good that I scarcely feel he was less of a story teller than Melville himself being a writer, surely, more so than a sailor: he need not have made them any better.

"He was neither a common man, nor that entirely intellectual, or even warm hearted, he was rather a brute of a man, with dirty fingerprints, and he'd leave them all over the house, especially on the walls.

"He was tall, and erect, sincere and somewhat revered or he tried to be with me at any rate, unsure, if he is not a great man in my soul. He seemed to me a man that had seen many things, and explained few, but in his tales he told everything accurately, as he saw them; he had eyes you know not keen eyes, but rather undistinguishable in anyway."

o

"When he told his tales and in particular his long swim, he was always full of gesture.

"He was not handsome, but brave and manly he was. And once he started his tale he lost himself in it, and somehow he gave it graced and polish. He was, Judith, for the most part backwards you might say, but one could clearly comprehend what he was implying, if his words got into a rambling state.

"He'd give you a strange lazy glance, at the end of each tale as if waiting to get your response."

Letter Three: 1859

Passion and Pride

"It's been a few years now, you're getting bigger, seven-years old now Judith. You are in school this afternoon, and I've been thinking we might be going back to Stockbridge, my hometown, you've never seen. But I want to tell you more about your father, and our two-years together, and explain the passion I had for him, if I can in a light form.

"I loved making love to him, he was although a bear in the process, on the other hand, he was respectable being near to, not directly with, an innocence, with his child like mannerisms, and most amiable during the full course of the affair.

"He was in loving making, like he was in his story telling, he got lost in it and there was no stopping him. This he had much knowledge in and I very little, and it was his daily, or almost daily favourite pursuit activity.

"We ate breakfast at 5:00 a.m., sharp. Then we'd take a walk, then he'd say 'Leave me be...' and I'd go off some place by myself, after saying goodbye, and we'd meet later.

"We ate late supper usually, and I was always worried of his sleep, he never felt well the next day, if he didn't get his sleep. The fact is, when your father left he was in a frightfully poor state of health, strain on his face, in his eyes, his mind, afraid to leave, to love, and possibly his body weakened from all those past adventures, and drinking.

"Wherever he was going to go that day, the day he left me, in 1852, which was on one of three ships, it was because he feared if he didn't, he'd upset his next adventure entirely, as if he was missing something, he knew his work on the ship, nothing else, pride was more costly than he thought, it was, and would be more so, I told myself, that in the future, it would take a toll on him: but working on ships, other than story telling what could he do, I suppose it was a dreadful state of mind to be in, trying to see where he fit in, a condition of anxiety, and story telling was part of his trips, he never read much, perhaps couldn't.

"The day he left he was more quiet than usual, and I had turned out to be his unpleasant companion. I even told him as we walked down to the shore, 'Your recluse life on those ships is making you insane.'

"But I knew he was dreaming of those far-off tropic isles, the hard blue waves of the sea, life under the unmoving sun, it was life at its best for him, it was in a way his medicine, if only he could curve his alcohol intake on these adventures of his, he did while staying with me, but the ills of ship life and the world at large, would surely have an impact on him. I find as a woman, we are always trying to be the caretaker of the man we love, my mother does it with my father, and most of the folks I see do it that way, and now here I am doing it also. What can I say?"

Letter Four: 1860

Death

"It's been a year Judith since my last letter; I keep putting them on top of one another, saving them for when you get older. We will be going to Stockbridge this year, pretty soon. I think I will write about your father's death, it was an abrupt surprised for me to say the least.

"He was found on the streets of Nantucket of all places, in 1853, you were only a year old then, plus a few months. He had only been gone no more than six-months, and when found on the streets he was delirious, in need of immediate assistance, according to the man who found him-he was hurt, he had fallen over a wooden fence, and punctured his back somewhat, how he came to this drunken condition is all speculation of course, but it is just a matter of fact, drunks do not need to look for disaster, it follows them. He was slightly coherent, long enough to call out a name, before he died, whom exactly he was referring to is unclear, he was in a state of 'doublespeak' he wanted to avoid I feel the secret of his love, be it me or his ship it was obscure speech.

"To my understanding, the word he called out sounded like 'The Amanita, or Amelia' there was a ship called Amanita, but it was out to sea, and not due for another week.

"Be that as it may, he died it was said of congestion of the brain, coupled with alcoholism. They said, the doctors said, and a few town folks who had seen him in the local bars a few weeks prior to his death, he had the tremors, delirium, his heart wasn't working right, he fell to his keens a few times.

"I of course arrived too late to be with him, the moment before he expired, perhaps it was best, it would have been quite trying on me.

Letter Five: 1861

"His death did not put me in a stupider, I had you. If anything, I'd have a lot of stories also to tell you Judith, when you got older. We had moved to Stockbridge, and lived now close to your grandparents. I also figured I'd not marry while raising you, it seemed to me, the very image of another man's property, as Cotton Mather might put it, so is a child, the new father sure enough would not treat you as his own. Plus, I got an allowance from your grandparents, Ernest Cleland was his name, and he was a good lawyer in his youth in Boston, and had written some books, and the sale of them made him a small fortune; books on law.

"And to carry this one more step forward, I do believe the prophecy is true, once married to a man who does not command you, he becomes greatly perplexed, as did your father at times, trying to treat me as an old beggar-woman, and thus, it is best he is gone, lest you be a little beggar-child.

"But what I really wanted to say was when I wrote my father back in '51, he begged me not to marry Gideon, he tried everything to persuade me different, sent me money, and said he'd support me and you. He called Gideon contamination. Oh I didn't like his wording at the time, but his words would turnout to be true. How foolish we become when we are infatuated with love...one can't see the trees in front of the forest, nor what is beyond it.

"I did love his tough, structured mutineer mannerisms, I think every woman does, they just got to realize such men are to be played with, for they are not tameable.

"Many of his stories were of dead sailors coming back as ghosts, subduing the sailors within the ship, and knife fights, in the middle of the night; stabbing and cutting one's throat. You never quite knew what was real or unreal.

"He would tell me about the South Seas, that all those whales they captured and brought back, their oil supplied Nantucket with fuel for lamps, and therefore illuminated the night, and as for the baleen that is around the whale's mouth, it was sold and used for women's corsets, hairbrushes, buggy whips, such things that had previously never occurred to me. In his own world he was very smart.

"All in all, it was a lucrative business I gathered, made many a ports rich, he said, but I knew it was a rough and dangerous life.

"Now I will explain to you the story he told me prior to finding him on the beach, and I shall paraphrase him to the best of my ability:

"The crew and I, he said, took our boats, whaleboats, in pursuit of the objective, which was to harpoon the prey, he successfully speared his whale-not seeing the other two boats in sight, he figured they went after the other two whales, there was three spotted-and I knew in my heart we'd be treated to a ...sleigh ride, meaning, that the whale was going to, and did, drag the hunters in that little boat, through the sea, as if on a safari. Then he went onto say, we lost sight of the ship, and as it turned to crash (the whale) us, I escaped, that being after five-hours of drudgery, in the open sea with a mad whale, that was spouting blood, and the mother ship nowhere in sight. It was late, perhaps 9:00 p.m., and he was left adrift. He claimed the whale was a big one, you know, like that Moby Dick, story Melville wrote back in '51. He said it would have produced a lot of blubber to boil down to oil. He said the whale would have brought some 300-barrols of material; when a normal whale brings in about 150. I think with Gideon, you have to sort out the truth, from fiction.

"Let me continue, the whale was a mile off, it was one huge whale, as I just mentioned, and when we got close to it, or near enough for me to harpoon it, our blood was stirring with eagerness, wherewith to fill the ship's galley, and hold with whale oil galore.

"We headed after one of the three, I was the oarsman, I held them at a peak, I rose he said, and plunged the harpoon into its flesh, and I did make his spout blood that was when he turned about, turned into us most furiously. The boat spun tossing us all into the air.

"The other two loose boats may have returned to the ship, I never knew.

See part II for ending...

It's a Mad, Mad World! Mental Health - An Ayurvedic Perspective

It's a Mad, Mad World! Mental Health - An Ayurvedic Perspective
Insane Muscle Girls :

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 450 million people worldwide are affected by mental, neurological or behavioral problems. However, determining that someone has a mental illness, and which one it could be, is one of the greatest challenges psychiatrists and psychologists face today. To date, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (the psychiatrists bible), lists over 400 disorders.

It's a Mad, Mad World! Mental Health - An Ayurvedic Perspective

It's quite normal to sometimes feel happy or sad, anxious or fearful, forgetful or confused. These are the hills and valleys of emotion in our daily lives. But when a person's emotions, thoughts or behavior frequently trouble them, or disrupt their lives and those around them, they may be suffering from mental illness. Even though as many as one in five people are thought to suffer from a form of mental illness, it still carries with it stigma and discrimination. Because of this people are reluctant to admit they have a problem and seek help and treatment. Unfortunately, when mental illness goes untreated the result can be suicide, which claims 873,000 lives a year. The economic costs of these conditions are also enormous and growing. According to the WHO, depression is expected to account for more lost years of healthy life than any other disease by 2030, except for HIV/AIDS.

What Causes Mental Illness?

Western scientists can tell us what happens as a result of certain mental health issues, but they cannot give us the underlying cause. For instance, brain scans have directly linked depression with changes in levels of neurotransmitters - chemicals that convey messages across neurons - people suffering from depression often display lowered levels of neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin's main effects include improving mood and giving you that "satisfied" feeling from food. It's also thought to help promote sleep and relaxation. Alzheimer's disease, a major source of dementia and memory loss in the elderly, is a result of an accumulation of protein plaques, which choke neurons in the brain. Untreated HIV infection, syphilis, Lyme disease and malaria are also thought capable of triggering a variety of mental illnesses. Modern medicine does not recognize a link between the body, mind and emotions. They look at the body as a machine, working independently of the mind.

The 5,000-year-old holistic science of Ayurvedic medicine, on the other hand, views the human being as body, mind and spirit, including the emotions and psychology, on all levels. It incorporates longevity, rejuvenation and self-realization therapies utilizing herbs, diet, yoga; breathing and physical exercises and meditation, massage, aromas and mantras. Ayurveda uses the concept of three biological humors; vata (air), pitta (fire), and kapha (earth) that if become unbalanced can affect us mentally, with disturbed emotions and thoughts, this will usually be reflected on a physical level also and visa versa. Through recent scientific research Dr. Candace Pert has come to a similar conclusion in her book Molecules of Emotion. Pert refers to the mind-body connection or a network of emotions linking the mind to the body. She demonstrates that cells throughout the body secrete 'emotional' hormones; these are then picked up by nerve impulses to produce the corresponding changes in mood and behavior. The immune system is linked with the brain (pituitary gland) and the endocrine system. Endorphins are the body's natural 'opiates' or pleasure hormones and are known to be increased by pranayama (yogic breathing) and yoga asana. Stress affects the body by releasing hormones, adrenaline and corticosterone from the brain and the immune system. Once in a stressed state the body itself can continue the stress cycle by the continuous activation of corticosterone. Depressed and traumatized people have high levels of corticosterone and often have a decreased level of immunity. This physiological state can be deactivated when the trauma and stress are released. In Ayurveda this means transforming the negative emotions, like fear, pain, anger and grief into positive ones.

The Function of the Astral Body

In Ayurveda and many other natural healing methods a subtle astral or emotional body is recognized to exist simultaneously with the physical body. It is linked to the physical body by energy centers or chakras. Subtle channels known as nadis transport prana or the essence of life energy and thought to corresponding glands around the body. Disruption in the flow of these energies causes psychological disease. As mentioned yogic breathing can keep these energies circulating, as can certain herbs such as calamus, basil, turmeric, guggul, myrrh, frankincense and cedar.

There is a shield between the astral and physical bodies, which protect us from negative thoughts or energies that are within the astral atmosphere. For instance, there is so much accumulated fear within the world projected from wars, the slaughter of billions of animals, pain and suffering of women and children that exists in the astral plane that if the link becomes weak we can no longer discriminate the physical from the astral. The fear, pain and anger "out there", affects our thoughts, fantasies and emotions, and we lose control. A physical trauma such as a severe blow to the head, sexual or physical abuse, excessive alcohol and mind-altering drugs such as LSD, ecstasy, cannabis and heroine can weaken this shield. Persons who are channelers open themselves up the astral plane also. One striking example of this is schizophrenia. This is a distorted view of reality, which may include hallucinations, hearing voices, delusions, and paranoia. Ayurveda recognizes this to be a symptom of a destructive astral force or entity entering the physical body commonly known as possession. Many Hindu priests, as well as Catholic priests, are taught a certain practice through prayer and sanctified water to rid the sufferer of the negative energy. Calamus, Holy basil and Gotu kola are then administered with perhaps some time being spent in a 'sattvic' or loving monastic environment.

Allopathic Psychiatric Treatments

Psychiatric treatment for mental illness can take many forms. The patient is encouraged to recognize their problems, understand what may trigger undesirable behavior, and develop coping strategies. Mood-stabilizing aim to moderate manic episodes of bipolar disorder and may also reduce recurrences of depression. Recently, however, some experts think there has been a rush to medicate and have questioned the effectiveness of many drugs. There is also controversy about using these drugs - such as Ritalin or amphetamines to treat children.

Various Mental Disorders and Ayurvedic Treatments

Depression

Among the most common mental illnesses is clinical depression. It is described as a prolonged, debilitating sadness, and feelings of hopelessness that is often accompanied by no highs or lows, just a bland existence which will ultimately lead to thoughts of suicide. The numbers of adolescents suffering from clinical depression have risen alarmingly in the last 10 years. Statistics show that suicide is the third leading cause of death in youths between 10 and 19 years old.

Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) is an affective disorder that causes periodic mood swings in which they cycle from depression to mania. Depression may be characterized by having a lack of motivation, difficulty doing tasks, short attention span, decreased appetite, crying spells, difficulty in getting to sleep or sleeping too much, and in the more severe cases thoughts of self harm. Mania is separated into two types: Full mania and hypomania. Mania may be characterized by a decreased need for sleep, decreased self-control, overspending, increased sexual activity, irritability, rage, risk-taking behaviors, and in the more severe cases psychotic states. Hypomania is described as having the same behaviors, to a less extreme level.

Ayurvedic Treatment

A need to arouse the sufferer's interest and enthusiasm in life is introduced to the sense of taste. Spices like ginger, cardamon and basil are used to open the heart and mind. Calamus teas are given with a little ginger and honey. Mints and sages of all types are useful. Triphala is given to alleviate constipation. Color therapy is used with warm tones of yellow and gold. Long walks are encourages in nature at her best; sunshine, river, lakes and forests. All these places are filled with pranic energy.

Cutting or Self-Injury

Self-injury involves self-inflicted bodily harm that is severe enough to either cause tissue damage or to leave marks that last several hours. Cutting is the most common form of SI, but burning, head banging and scratching are also common. Other forms include biting, skin-picking, hair pulling, hitting the body with objects or hitting objects with the body. Although suicidal feelings may accompany SI, it does not necessarily indicate a suicide attempt. Most often it is simply a mechanism for coping with emotional distress. People who select this emotional outlet may use it to express feelings, to deal with feelings of unreality or numbness, to stop flashbacks, to punish themselves, or to relieve tension. Although SI is recognized as a common problem among the teenage population, it is not limited to adolescents. People of all sexes, nationalities, socioeconomic groups and ages can be self-injurers.

Ayurvedic Treatment

Often, the sufferer feels the need to stimulate themselves by pain. Ayurveda uses nervine herbs like Trikatu, cayenne, cardamom, cloves and calamus. Warming and nourishing these feed the emotional heart. Pippali is good also, 1/4 teaspoon with honey every few hours. Avoid sleeping during the day.

Anxiety Disorders

These include post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger disorders, hypochondria, and phobias such as agoraphobia (open spaces), claustrophobia (small places), acrophobia (heights), arachnophobia (spiders) and social phobia (being around people). These are all characterized by powerful feelings of panic and physical signs of fear, sweating, and a racing heart - due to some cue in the environment, or for no obvious reason at all. Many sufferers believe they are either going insane or going to die.

Ayurvedic Treatment

Anxiety is mainly a Vata disorder and Ashwaganda is generally given am and pm in warm milk. Aromatherapy, using rose and jasmine is used. Warm massage and gentle, slow yogic techniques. Maha Mantra and Shrim mantra should be spoken.

Eating Disorders

There are three common eating disorders; anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Each disorder has different affects on the human body. A disease that used to be associated with young women is now appearing in young men. Anorexia is characterized by a significant weight loss, which is usually resulting from excessive dieting. Sufferers see themselves to be overweight, or fat, no matter what their actual weight may be. Anorexics may also use compulsive exercise to control their weight. Anorexics commonly strive for perfection in all the things they do. They set extremely high standards for themselves, and feel that they always have to prove themselves. They may also feel that the only thing they have control over in their lives is their weight. People with bulimia engage in cycles of gorging or binging themselves on large quantities of food and then purging through vomiting or use of laxatives. This can have a disastrous effect as with repeated purging the sufferer will lose their teeth from stomach acid and the use of laxatives will eventually render the bowel muscles useless.

Ayurvedic Treatment

To begin with the patients should fast on orange juice and water for first three to five days. After the juice diet the patient may adopt an all fruit diet for a further five days, taking three meals a day of juicy fruits, such as apples, pears, grapes, oranges, pineapple, peaches at five hourly intervals. Thereafter they may adopt a restricted diet of easily digestible foods, consisting of lightly cooked vegetables, juicy fruits, and buttermilk for about ten days. During the first three to five days of the juice fast, the bowels should be cleansed with a warm water enema each day. Teas of cardamom, fennel, and fresh ginger to help regulate digestion and stop vomiting; valerian, nutmeg, herb ashwagandha. Massage with sesame oil, and sandalwood.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD

ADHD, sometimes known as ADD, is a common behavioral disorder that affects an estimated 8% to 10% of school-age children. Boys are about three times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with it, though it's not yet understood why. Children with ADHD act without thinking, are hyperactive, and have trouble focusing. They can't sit still, pay attention, or attend to details. Recent research links smoking during pregnancy to later ADHD in a child. Some studies have even suggested a link between excessive early television watching and future attention problems. It has been advised that children under 2 years old should not have any "screen time" (TV, DVDs or videotapes, computers, or video games) and that kids 2 years and older should be limited to 1 to 2 hours per day, or less, of quality television programming.

Ayurvedic Treatment

Child's diet should consist of fruit, grains and vegetables full of natural vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Eliminate caffeine, sugar and other sweets, processed food, MSG, aspartame (NutraSweet) and other sugar substitutes, and any foods that contain preservatives, food dyes or other chemicals and eating at fast food chains. Drink water, fresh homemade vegetable and fruit juices. Eliminate sodas and caffeinated beverages. No white bread. No processed peanut butter: It contains aflatoxin, a fungus that causes cancer. Instead use almond butter from your health food store. Children need a lot of rest and should go to bed early. Proper exercise daily- outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine. Play with your children!

Note: Ritalin closely resembles an amphetamine. It is a cocaine-like drug that induces zombie-like behavior in children. The public school system's idea of ADHD treatments is prescribing Ritalin which, like all toxins, come with a long list of side effects including nervousness, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, joint pains, headaches, increased blood pressure, fever, rapid heartbeat, abdominal pain, and psychosis.

Knowledge is Empowering

Many people take medication to help control or manage the symptoms of their mental illness. A clear knowledge and understanding of medication and possible side effects combined with knowledge and understanding of both oneself and one's illness is often important in achieving a sense of personal control over the symptoms of the illness. Knowledge enhances your ability to self manage your medication to get the maximum benefits from it while reducing the potential for side effects and the risk of relapse. Acquiring knowledge also enhances your ability to negotiate effectively with the treating doctor about dose, frequency and the types of medication choices. Keeping up with current advances in medication research and the new drugs as they become available also increases your medication and treatment options. Remember it is your body and mind, and your decision what treatment you are going to choose.

Top 5 Reasons You Should Live Healthy

,
Top 5 Reasons You Should Live Healthy
Insane Muscle Girls :

For some years now a lot of attention has gone to areas that have taken a backseat in the past. Think of the environment and the push to live green. But since the 80s the medical department has made big jumps and we now know a lot of ways to live healthier and enhance our lives. But why should you? Here are 5 reasons.

Top 5 Reasons You Should Live Healthy

5. It's easy

Believe it or not but it's easy to live healthy. The reason for this is because it's a lifestyle choice and not a limitation per se. After about a week of living healthy the body and mind adjusts in a way that we wouldn't want to go to the old ways.

A healthy portion of exercise and nutritious foods should always be on your mind. It's not hard, just takes some getting used to.

4. Bragging rights

A healthy diet and enough exercise can help your muscles grow. Finally you can be that buff person from the movies, you know the one that gets the girl but than loses her to a smart guy with feelings. This is definitely a reason people should want to go healthy.

3. It's cool in a different way

This point is perhaps arguable but living healthy is a cool thing these days. Isn't it great to be different? Go to school and collect an Apple from the cafeteria instead of those insane portions of cheeseburgers. It will get some heads turning occasionally believe me. So attention seekers, go to the green side of the plate.

2. It's cheap

It can be a cheaper life style than the one you have now. If you're a smoker and a heavy drinker, lose those things and it can save thousands of dollars on year basis. And even for more common lifestyles it can save money because living healthy means eating "when you're hungry". I dare to bet that your shopping chart will be lighter to push. And not just because of the thicker biceps!

1. It enhances your life

How could this reason not win? Basically every aspect of your life -apart from some social gatherings perhaps- becomes better. You'll have more strength and feel more energized, this results in more productivity. All in all it leads to more happiness in your life. And with that in mind it's worth extending that life by making the right choices.

So those are the 5 main benefits you'll enjoy by adopting a healthier lifestyle. There're more but these are the ones that will spring to mind for most on the fence. Let me help you make the decision. And remember if you don't like in you can always go back.

Becoming Present

,
Becoming Present
Insane Muscle Girls :

Whether you are new or familiar with spiritual concepts, the one key thing across all of the teachings (meditation, kabbalah, mysticism of any kind, personal development classes, and yes, even Tony Robins) is that humans in general are not present. In fact most of us have never had a present moment in our lives or very few of them. If they are experience, most people experience being present during extreme stress situations. For example, anyone who has ever been in a car accident and time seems to slow down. That's being present. You are so in the moment, time literally seems to change form. For anyone who has ever been sky diving or for that matter done anything one might consider extreme or adrenaline inducing. You know that rush you get? That's being present. It's that "super-focus" you get when you are really in the NOW. You aren't worrying abut some point out there in the future and you aren't regretting some event in the past. There's only the present moment.

Becoming Present

In order to become conscious on a higher level and I'm talking about self-awareness here. Not conscious as in you wake up in the morning, you breathe and you brush your teeth. So you assume that you must be conscious. Hardly! Take notice how often you are really there while you are brushing your teeth. Most likely the body is on auto-pilot while you are pondering, worrying, stressing, or imagining how this day's events will unfold. You wonder will it be a "good or a bad day". This happens a lot if you take notice. While you drive, while you watch TV, even while you talk to another person. You are supposed to be present and listening, but how often are we really just listening to what we are thinking about what the person is saying rather than what the person is saying. It's an amazing phenomenon that a humans can talk to one-another and in their own mind can be having a whole other conversation with themselves. Personally, I find that fascinating. Maybe even odd, it's a wonder we communicate at all!

So what does it take to truly be present to have awareness? Well, indulge me for a moment and try this out. Have you ever noticed there's a "little voice" in your head? Take 15 to 30 seconds, be quiet, and just listen. Listen to it wonder about the kids, about your job, that person at work that did you wrong today, how your best friend doesn't care about you anymore, how things will never change, etc. It's quite a chatter box isn't it? For those of you sitting there thinking "What little voice?"...That's the voice!

I've had this conversation with many people over the years and most of them failed to notice their "voice" until I mentioned it. Or if they have noticed it, they had believed up until that moment that those were their thoughts they were having. Let me break it to you gently, it's Not! I repeat, those aren NOT your thoughts. This is what in psychology or philosophy is more commonly referred to as the Egoic Mind. When Freud talks about your EGO, that's what he is referring to. If that was you having thoughts in there, then how could you listen and observe them the way you just did? It was more like listening to something speak, then having them yourself, wasn't it? Take another 15 to 30 seconds and really listen to it this time. What is it saying to you? My assertion is that "it" never has many good or positive things to tell you. It's usually where fear, anger, depression, and so many other things we consider as negative are often derived from.

How many times have you been in a room filled of people and you want to talk to that guy/girl and your "voice" kicks in and says to you "Yeah, go over there and talk to him/her. You're great! They'll love you!" How many? Zero? Probably. That's what it does. It's a survival mechanism of a human being. The only thing it is concerned with is your survival, your "safety" if you will. This is well and good when you have your hand on a hot stove or that car is barreling down on you ready to strike. You clearly need to move quickly to safety and something inside you has to have you react to the threat. But now consider that this mechanism, this "voice", is also having you survive your life, the many circumstances that surround your life, and almost all social situations are usually just us trying to survive the moment. (Did you know the number one fear is public speaking! Yup, number one. People rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy - Seinfeld Joke. Why do you think that is?) A threat whether real or imagined is still a threat to humans. The Egoic Mind is masterful at creating illusionary threats. The things it will tell you, you would never say to yourself. Why would you? Would you ever really put yourself down, tell yourself you aren't good enough, or be paralyzed with taking action if you had a choice? Doubtful. Consider that this is not your "true" voice, that your voice is not a voice at all, but more of a feeling inside of you. When people speak of intuition or "your gut", that's much closer to your what your "true" voice feels like. Notice that "following your gut" or "trusting you intuition" is considered a positive thing in language.

So Now What?

The only way to begin freeing yourself of the grasp of this "little voice" is to get present to it. This is very simple, but not necessarily easy. With practice it does get easier. I'm pre-warning you that the mind is the ultimate chess master. It will find reasons and excuses to devoid you of any commitments or responsibilities you have taken upon yourself and will trick you into thinking that it's fine to have zero integrity around what you say to yourself and others. As if there is no impact. Ahem - who here has actually kept their New Year's Resolution in 2011. We are only 5 weeks in so far! How's that working for you? Still got that extra weight? Still smoking? Still making the same mistakes? Stop and consider that the very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Might I suggest something different then?

Like anything in life, in order to become masterful, you must educate yourself, and then put this education into practice or it's quickly forgotten. What you know, rarely, if ever makes a profound difference in life (I'll get more into that in coming posts and exactly why that is, but for now see if you can take my word for it). Taking action and experiencing on the other-hand will carry its weight in gold for a lifetime. Give a man a fish...teach a man to fish philosophy essentially. If you want to begin feeling unimaginable freedom and space in your life, you must begin by observing this "voice" and distinguishing it from who you think you are. Just notice what it says throughout the day. Tell it "thanks for sharing" and let that thought go. The next thought will come, again, "thanks for sharing" and let it go. Notice how much garbage this Egoic Mind throws at you every second of every day. No wonder people are always exhausted! It's as if we are harassing ourselves internally non-stop. How can you ever experience lasting peace living that way?

I want you to consider that none of what the "voice" says is the Truth. It's more like an inner dialogue, a conversation or a story that has been on repeat in your mind for a very, very, very, very long time and hence we take it as the Truth. We forget that we made it up in the first place and it becomes part of our identity. We fight, counter-intuitively I might add, to keep this identity in place even if it's causing us harm. It's amazing how we hold on to what is comfortable and known and how scared most of us are of stepping into the unknown. A good analogy for this process is like when you put on a pair of sunglasses. At first you notice that the world is shaded differently, but if you leave the glasses on long enough, you forget and that becomes your "reality", the filter through which you view the world. Makes sense?

Usually these types of decisions and conversations were created when you are very young (3 to 7 years old) and experienced some type of trauma in your life that may have been real or imagined. You as an upset child then make a decision with your underdeveloped brain (the brain isn't fully developed until the age of 23) about life or about yourself. And that decision becomes the story you've been telling yourself (in your mind) on repeat since that exact moment (the sunglasses are now on the face). That is why life so often feels like we're running on hamster wheels. Almost as if the same things keep happening over and over again. The same relationships, that same boss is at every job, same drama, and so on. It's all a function of these stories we've told ourselves for long periods of time, these stories become the way things are, our opinions, our truths.

"Say the same thing have the same life, say something different, have a completely different life."

Presence is the only way to start understanding the impact this mechanism/voice has on your life and it's the first step to creating space for your life so it can start showing up differently than it has in the past. For those of you that go to the gym regularly, you obviously go there to work out and train your muscles. Well, the brain is one of the biggest muscles you have, so do something with it! Consider this act of being present, as exercise for your mind. Just keep bringing yourself into the NOW, and let go of future worry or past resentment. You can't control either one anyway. Worry is all illusionary and a tactic of the Egoic Mind. Your worry has never solved a single problem, caused anything to happen faster, or given you any peace. You can't change the past, it happened. When you're on your death bed and this has been studied. People don't regret what they did, they regret what they didn't do. If you wish, there is a way to clean up things in your past and that will involve you taking responsibility for things in your life you may have never considered you can be responsible for. That's another way to create freedom and space in your life (a conversation for another post). Your other option is to BE PRESENT. Begin to notice what opens up for you when you are being present. I would write these insights down in a notebook!

In my later posts I'll begin describing how you can experience choice in your life like you can't even imagine.

I leave you with a question to consider: What actions would you take, right now, in your life if you could give up all the reasons you've created that stop you?

Peace & Love
Guy Ferdman

The first thing you need to do is pick out a good, non-petroleum based massage oil. Find her favorite smell and make sure to pick some up. Don't buy a cheap one, there are literally thousands on the market that are filled with questionable materials. You know how women are about their skin, men. You don't want to give them a nervous breakdown with something that you picked up for .99 cents at the dollar store.

Once you get yourself some good lubrication, make sure to have a plan to protect the bed from the oil. Women also love their bedding so you are going to need some huge towels to put her mind at ease when it comes to her prized comforter and sheets. Once that is taken care of, you then need to understand some massage basics of a woman's body.

A road map of the female back and buttock

You are going to want to apply oil down the entire spine and a small amount on the neck. Be careful not to saturate the hair around her neck. That is also why it's important to get a water based lubricant, so you don't have to worry about her getting it out of her hair in the shower. Start on the shoulders and be very gentle. Most women don't like overly firm massages.

Slowly go down the shoulder blades and the large muscles in the back. Do not try any odd, amateur chiropractic work. Work your way down to the lower back and to the buttock. The buttock is the key erogenous zone here. Work some firm pressure over it in varying angles and she will love you.
